Eerlijk is eerlijk! NOS-NTR heeft een BIJZONDER goed overzichtelijk, gedifferentieeerd, bijna 2 uur durend programma gemaakt. Zo goed gedifferientierd zelfs dat het moeilijk geworden is! Wie een stukje voorgekouwde opinie wil, zal of teleurgesteld worden of zal wegzappen. Maar van Links tot Rechts, Islamist tot filosoof, Obama tot VVD-er van Baalen en zoveel anderen,... de commentaren en opinies waren MIJ héél dierbaar. Al was het alleen al Taricq Ramadam's waarschuwing dat niet die brotherhood maar juist de Wilders-en in Europa een gevaar voor meningsuiting, vrijheid en vooral eigenbeschikking vormen. (YES, dat was exact in mijn straatje!)

Na Aljazeera is dit(tenminste, die ik gezien heb)de eertse special (bijna 2 uur!) die zaken, feiten, emoties en opinies op een rijtje gezet heeft. En nogmaals, je krijgt geen voorgekauwde waarheid voorgeschoteld! Maar zelfs de angsten van rechtsere geluiden mogen gehoord worden! Ik deel die angsten geheel niet, maar ik ben ook niet alléén op de werelderanderen en hoor dus ook graag die angsten! Al heb ik niet de pretentie iets aan die uitgesproken personen te kunnen veranderen, wèl durf ik te stellen dat een aantal mensen die mij kennen en voornamelijk de Telegraaf citeren, (daarom lees ik óók de T.)'een genuanceerder beeld" overhouden van mijn vaak tegengestelde uiteenzettingen. Op 1 of 2 handen te tellen? Inderdaad! Maar die praten ook weer met anderen. Helaas lezen zij mijn blogs (nog)niet.

Libya: Stop the Crackdown

In Libya, Colonel Qaddafi's armed forces are using machine guns and fighter jets against pro-democracy protesters -- hundreds have already been killed and, without immediate international action, the situation could spiral into a national bloodbath.

The United Nations Security Council and the European Union are in emergency sessions on Libya this week. If we can pressure them to agree to a no-fly zone over Libya, a freeze of Qaddafi's, his family's and his high command's assets, targeted sanctions against the regime, and international prosecution of any military officials involved in the crackdown -- this could stop airforce bombings and split Qaddafi's command structure.

We have no time to lose -- the people of Libya are being slaughtered by government forces. Click to send a message directly to all the UNSC delegations, EU Foreign Ministers and the High Representative for the EU to stop the violence and share this with everyone -- let's inundate them with messages and spur them to action!

Spijt komt na de zonde? Politiek in België èn Nederland over Libië!

Met deze uitspraak door SP.A. viel ik in het vragenuurtje van het Belgisch Parlement. Hoewel Villa Politica, het VRT één programma, tusendoor politici aanklampte met de vraag of nieuwe verkiezingen wel of niet een optie zou zijn, ging het weldegelijk om de Arabische crisis en nadrukkelijk om de positie van België in de Libische geschiedenis en de huidige situatie. De demissionaire minister van Buitenlandse zaken werd voor zijn beantwoording en onthullingen unaniem geprezen op één enkele twijfelvraag van Open VLD Herman De Croo. Van links naar rechts, Vlaams en Waals, Groen, rood en zwart, Stefan Vanackere oogste applaus en zelfs bewondering. Hij onthulde dat hij zondag 20 en maandag 21 februari j.l. met de 27 Europese Buitenlandse Zaken ministers in spoedzitting, als enige het voortouw genomen had. Het E.U. standpunt was niet te danken aan andere mogelijk verlichtte zielen maar aan zijn initiatieven. Uiteraard beantwoorde hij ook de vragen inzake de wapenleveranties van FN Herstal (Fabrique Nationale) aan Libië die zoals hij de journalisten maandag al had verteld, een leverantie was voor het Libische aandeel in de V.N. missie in Darfur. Daarnaast was het ook geen Nationale export vergunning, maar een federale Waalse. Ook de toetreding van Libië tot de UNHR enkele jaren geleden was door de toenmalige afgevaardigde bij de VN namens de Belgische regering afgeraden of met scepsis benaderd. Inderdaad, spijt komt na de zonde. Maar de 155 landen hebben destijds ingestemd met de toetreding van Libië tot de raad voor de mensenrechten. Hij stond ook voor “een direct embargo van leveranties van “enig tuig” dat in Libië tegen de bevolking ingezet kan worden”, en de spoedzittingen in Geneve en het Euro Parlement stonden ongeveer in het spoor van zijn rol vorig week-end. En hoewel ik een aantal vervolg vragen of replieken heb moeten missen omdat Villa Politica wéér een partijleider of afgevaardigde op de gang moest vragen naar de opties voor of tegen nieuwe verkiezingen, was de Kamer opmerkelijk solidair en vonden er geen noemenswaardige interrupties noch gebruikelijke scheldpartijen plaats. Een Waalse afgevaardigde die toch blijkbaar even in zijn wiek geschoten was – waarschijnlijk door een terzijde sneer inzake FN - kwam nog net even in beeld. Toen de voorzitter de zitting wilde afhameren vroeg de minister alsnog even het woord omdat Herman de Croo zich had afgevraagd waarom de minister nu pas met die onthullingen was aangekomen en dat niet eerder wereldkundig had gemaakt. Het antwoord was verbluffend: omdat het om het aankomende resultaat en niet om persoonlijk resultaat gaat.
De Kamer stemde geheel in met de conclusies van de voorzitter inzake 2 resoluties die maandag aan bod komen en daarmee was de zitting afgesloten.
Wat een uitzonderlijke eensgezindheid in België. Bijna saai zo waardig! En wat een verschil met het welles – nietes gezeur in de Nederlandse Tweede Kamer eergisteren. Daar moest de PVV het dreigende spook van een – “volgens open bronnen” - al gesticht Kalifaat en miljoenen vluchtende moslims aan de grens ophangen. Wat die open bronnen dan waren bleven herhaaldelijk “open”. De man wiens naam ik alweer kwijt ben doet mij overigens verdacht veel aan een Haags tiepje van Van Kooten en de Bie denken. Alleen was het niet lollig maar eindeloos irritant IMO. En dan een VVD standpunt dat maar van geen embargo wilde weten omdat het geen toegevoegde waarde zou hebben op de Europese richtlijnen inzake leveranties aan landen in conflict. De hele linkerzijde en ook de SGP onder volhouding van SP-er van Bommel wilde natuurlijk wel een totaal embargo omdat verscheping van buitenlandse wapens via de Rotterdamse haven niet onder de EU export regels valt.
Spijt komt na de zonde? Hoewel het anders bedoeld was vind ik het heel toepasselijk! In dit geval zelfs drievoudig!
Ten eerste vind ik het onbegrijpelijk van Villa Politica om tijdens vragen, antwoorden en duplieken van wereldse zaken als Libië en de hele regio, weg te breken om feitelijk volstrekt onbelangrijke vragen te stellen die overigens weer eensgezind met "nee, geen nieuwe verkiezingen", beantwoord werden. Wat een zonde! Maar IMO is het sowieso een irritante kant van Villa Politica om telkens weg te breken uit de Kamer zelfs als het om toelichting gaat over wat er in het parlement gaande is.
Secundo: het niet aflatende wellens nietes gezeur, kleinburgelijkheid en ontkenning van PVV en VVD. Het afhouden van een totaal wapen embargo vind ik zelfs een soort doodzonde!
Laatst maar niet minst: Wat een schoonvoorbeeld van buitenlands beleid van een demissionaire regering en unanieme steun van de nieuwe Kamer van Volksvertegenwoordigers die anderzijds het wereldrecord “Njet” tegen een formatie op hun credo hebben. Wat een zonde.
Nu is de vraag: "Wie en wanneer gaat er spijt betuigen?"

P.S. : Later zag ik op het VRT Journaal wat er zich afgespeeld had voorafgaand aan het moment dat ik inschakelde. LOL! Demissionair minister De Krem (defentie) was op de wapenbeurs geweest in Abu Dhabi. Dàt is de Belgische Kamer zoals ik gewend ben! Niks saai! Circus zonder dieren! LOL!

Deal or no deal? On Lybian natural gas.

I just found out that Gazprom (RU) and ENI (IT) have gained a recent contract to exploite the natural gas in the far south of Lybia. So far it seems to be ENOURMOUS! It's not a weapons deal and nothing wrong with getting natural gas! But it DOES explain why Berlusconi and Putin (or Italy and Russia) didn't say a word on the Libian situation. This is a TRILLIONS $ concesion!!!

Supose that Gaddafi will fall and a new government want's to review the deal... Deal is deal? NO! Yes, as long as you have the same partner! (int. Rights) I.o.w.: When (and likely) the Gaddafi adminstration topples.... the new administration CAN break up the deal. Suppose: You and I are the new government of post Gaddafi's Lybia. (LOL!)
I, and I guess you 2, would say: "Sorry Gazprom and Eni. This gass belongs to to Libian people. So... we dont want 15 % for our selves, but 60% for the Libian people. If you don't like it, leave it. We will start an OPEN bid for the consession." For sure Putin and Berlusconi would have sleeples nights! Even when they know for sure that(i.e) the NAM (NL Aardgas Maatschappij = Dutch Natural gass Cie, AND a serious optant) would only bid a 25% direct profit)

Please people, do not comment on my %-s. I have NO CLUE on the real figueres in that kind of deals! Nor do I have any aspiration to become the next Lybian PM! (LOL!) Indeed, it's all "WHAT IF". But I am serious in my toughts and questions: WHY do they just only take a deep breath, and keep their mouths. The Gasprom and ENI deal is just a simple, not weapons and thus innocent deal. But one of those $.$$$.$$$.$$$.$$$,..... deals with all those protesting countries... who MIGHT be... at stake!

All Arabs alike? For weapons trade by the west they were!

Four weeks of very dramatic events in the Arab world. Thanks to Aljazeera with 24/24 coverage and in depth journalism I feel exhausted due to lack of sleep. But it's worth following the events and comments.
How well are or were we informed? I found out so many new things and flabergasting facts that I have to admit: even as a well informed person, I knew very little! Of course I knew a lot on Human Rights and especially the lack of most rights in the Arab world. And for sure, we all know about the Midle-East conflickt. Mainly on Palestine and the Occupied part of Palestine and the civil war in Beyruth. Since the war in Irak we know that the USA got Saoudi Arabia and Bahrain as allies. Who doesn't know the face of Kolonel Gaddafi and his socialist republic of Libya and last but not least the feared regime in Iran. [This part was written the day before the first protest in Lybia!] During the 17 days of the Egypt protest some people were questioning the future. Mainly by fears for this Brotherhood that might steal the egypt revolution and turn it into a new Iran. And yes, that is still possible but IMO not very likely. The question I had was why are the US and the UK so reluctant to say something? Only in the last phase, President Obama and Hillary Clinton came up with the peoples demand for democracy and the need for Mubarak's resignation. And only just before the resignation, the Brittisch PM came with a short statement.

There was sommething od. Of course, after the Bush-Blair lies on Saddam's weapons of mass destuction, It was to be expected that they wouldn't fight to be the first to come up with strong opinions. I alreddy had the feeling that it was somewhat embarrassing to say something against the Mubarak regime that they have considered to be an allied partner, a friend. Nevertheless, something did not fit!

Question: What are the REAL Western interests or fears in the region? Stability in the Middle east? Oil? Weapon sales? And why is the western world dealing and wealing with dictators, likely even as evil as the former Yougoslavian dictators wanted or convicted for crimes of war? I have stated many times that this fingerpointing on Human Rights in China is as hypocrit as can be! Yes, the human rights were discussed - behind closed doors - but big $ deals is the turn out! ??? Sure, everyone says: "Oil of course! That's the western interest in the Arab world!" No daubts, the Kuwaity oil shut down in the the early 70's and the impact on world wide economy with barrel prices souring after that, are very likely an argument to keep everything smoothly and very diplomatic. But with the Bahrain awakening of the protest and when tear gass was massively used, Aljazeera (again) came up with an overvieuw of the Brittish weapon trade in the region. That is absolutely stunning. And of course, when those governments use those weapons against their own people, "we" are also very sad but "we" cannot be responsible for abuse by suddenly irrisponsible governments... But "We" benifitted from the huge profits on weapon deals. And indeed, the whole region is stuffed with weapons, tanks, tear gass, you name it!
Meanwhile the domino effect has evolved and Maroccan and Lybian governments are also under siege.

With the massacres in Benghazy and Tripoly last night and today, again I wondered why is every-one in the western world just holding his breath? But even before the first cassualties, Aljazeera came up with the Brittish, Italian and Frensh interests in Lybian oil, namely BP, Shell, ENI. But also again: weapons! I tought that the Lybian weapons were Russian of former USSR made. Nope! They have British, French (Mirage aircraft) European weaponnery. Even the Belgian FN (Fabrique Nationale Herstal) has stuffed Lybia with guns, rifles, .... and millions of amunition. Those FN deliveries were so called "restricted" for use in the UN mission in Darfur and there will be an investigation to see if any bullits found in Benghazi are indeed FN made. That's a great comfort for the deaths and their families! BTW It should now be called FW (Fabrique Wallone Herstal) It's no longer a National Belgian but a federated Walloon factory with Walloon responsibility for whatever deal. The more I'm searching (Wikipedia as important sourse after Aljazeera), the more I'm flabergasted. The cold was is over, former Yougoslavia war is over, Irak is more or less over and the weapon industry is still booming!

Now I have a question I couldn't find any evidence and likely only to be unvailed by WIKILEAKS: Are those billions of $ weapon trades done with big baggs filled with unmarked, unsed US $ notes? So... how is it transfered...? Coincidence? Why was there a need to keep those Banks alive with taxpayers money? For the poor man's savings? Or is it more likely that millions, if not billions were stuck at those banks between weapon manufactures and middle-east clients? Triodos bank CEO (or other guy)sugested something 3 years ago that half uncounsiously triggered my interest. Why Triodos bank was not in trouble? Becourse they they had no interests in foreign assets and trades they resent anyway. ? Meaning? But there wasn't a follow up question asked to be more specific. Later I read that they don't accept trades where i.e. weapons are involved.
My mortgage and stocks are ASN-bank NL Greenfund. But my daily bank is still a very well known Dutch bank saved by the Dutch government. Time to switch to TRIODOS bank NL. Used to be a savings only bank, recently a "normal" bank with ONE difference: their pledge and openness to the costumers and share holders: Green stocks and assets and NO weapons transfer money!
Yes I am relatively well informed on almost everything public and the differend opinions. Local, National, world wide. But when I wanna hit the bulls eye... I realise again and again, the more you find out, the less you knew.
Like I said, this is all new to me. I am not interested in weaponery, hate it actually, and didn't want to know anything about it. Now I am very interested. Especially since I cannot track the weapons money flow. (I'm just an amateur and only 4 days looking! But since the events are unfolding so rapidly, I had to publish my OPINIONS now.)
