Almost impossible to follow and verrrrry hard to comment: The Thai Tragedy 2010.
Of course, I'm just a farang living in Amsterdam. But that is true twice. To some extend I have a very subjective view on the world: I am against war, most "-ismen" and an anti nationalist. Many people call me an utopist, unrealistic and when needed even an enlighted dictator. I have to confess: I said myself, "rather an enlighted dictator than a corrupt democrat.", some 16 years ago in political forums on CompuServe. In those day's it was not done to have explicit opinions. Most posts were starting with "IMHO ...." (=in my humble opinion) defending fascistoid view points. Not much has changed, people still vent discriminating opinions and often based on ignorance, unconsiousnes or plain stupidity. What did change is that for every post then, there are hundreds now. And of co.urse, 90% is still nonsense, whatever the subject. That makes it worse. The quality didn't grow 100 times, only the quatity. Therefore I will not ad another stupid opinion on the Thai tragedy but try to find opinions who might inform us and might give us some insight view.
I was very interested in the view of Somtow Sukaritkul and the replies. ( short: Somtow is a Bankok Thai who lived and studied in Europe and worked in Los Angeles as a writer. see his profile)
Of course, he triggered a lot of replies and that makes it difficult again. But... I found some interesting ones too. It's Somtows blogg and he does moderate replies. So perhaps some interesting "other-side-o-t-coin" replies might be missing. After all, his blog isn't a forum. :)
When I find more interesting links I will post them as a reply to this blog.

Vor Viertzig Jahren. Part 6 unedited
Damned! My favorite Damiano Cunego is slipping down again in the 2010 Giro dÍtalia! It's now may 21, 2010. Last year we were om or way to Pesaro when we crossed.... the film location of a somewhat famous B-movie. It's actually to much. To many memmories!!! Sure: the movie, my trip last year... and my first recal of VOR VIERTZIG JAHREN.... actually 40 years ago about 40 years ago.
September first 1970, Amstelveen. ( see NOT YET PUBLISHED parts 2 and 4-5-21 and publ. part1) What a horrible day! After 10 day's at het Nationale Ballet, 15 day's after a military or better: "Marines sweep" like Dutch TV news called it, I am wondering where I got into:
[the cursor is jumping all over the place again and thus I have to stop on this laptop; I am trying to rectify 3/4 of whatever I wrote!]

VOR VIERTZIG JAHREN. (40 years ago) part 1
Today is a special, memorable day...
Antwerp, May 20th 1970
I got the news: Dutch KRO-tv's Zaterdagavondaccoorden was no more. The HAVE-TO-SEE monthly Saturday evening show was announced to end after emmm... 10? years. Sure, many people said oh, well, something else will come instead. But I had my first real problem.
Just seventeen, I left the Antwerp ballet school 3 months ago for a beginners career as a dancer in the show bizz, with the Zaterdagavondaccoorden. No daubts, that was what I wanted. I didn't wanted to be a corps de ballet dancer at the just new founded Ballet van Vlaanderen. Not even with the "prediction" that I would (not even might) become the second director if I stayed at the ballet school.
Amsterdam. May 20... 2010, 40 years later: Yesterday I was "gardening" in our public parc when someone asked me how to get into our building. Well, that's a problem here. Ten towers linked with an internal gallery but for safety reasons since some 10 years only accessible trough the first and main entrance for visitors. So I told but asked the man: "where do you have to be?" getting my keys. He said: "I have some books abaut the National Ballet for nr 823." Eh? 823??? The National Ballet???That's me!
The man looked very confused at me... likely due to my confusion. "Perhaps I have a wrong number," he said, "but it's for someone I know who lives here... Hans Nieuwenhuis... and..." but before he could say anymore I was laughing. Of course. I let the man in and rang the door to announce the visitor to Hans. Some 15 mins later the man left again also laughing about the confusion at the back door. I talked to Hans last night about the confusion at the door and he showed me the books. One was 25 years Het Nationale Ballet. So indeed also my year, 1970-71 and the years before and after.
I couldn't sleep again. Even an tranquilser didn't help... until 9.00 a.m. Meanwhile I watched some documentaries (not a good thing to do with insomnia) reminding me of my first years in Amsterdam...
Antwerp end May 1970. My parrents were very worried. I left school and now there was no work for dutch tv anymore. I was thinking of Paris, Las Vegas, or perhaps Berlin... I knew Paris very well, my sister lived there until she moved back to Amsterdam in 1969 and of course I knew that Paris was la vie de boheme, strikes, students rebellion and even President De Gaule couldn't save France anymore. But no way my parents would let me go alone, just 17, to cities like Paris not mention Las Vegas! ... That last saturday my ex-brother in law came to visit his daughter who was living with us and asked me what I was going to do. I woke up! He was going to do tv work in Germany! He had just quit as the co-director of het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam!!! Köln, München... and perhaps Berlin at last? Yes!!!! I want do! But that was not realistic he said. After all, I was only 17! How abaut a year at Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam? ...
Amsterdam, May 20. 2010. I woke up dizzy. Those tranquillisers do work... with a delay of 6 hours... :( In that documentary last night a proffessor from Oxfort said something much alike another quote I heard the night before: The truth is usually not in what people say but in what they don't tell! Interesting! I wanted to say that the lies are usually not obvious in what people say but likelyin what they write. Reports, biographies, you name it beeing print is usually full of lies just hidden by the omitments. It's usually not so difficult to know, to smell, to assume that it isn't true but so difficult to proof it, due to the ommitments who would make it clear. The right to remain silent is such a weard thing: of course, when you remain silent you cannot tell a lie. But is it thus the truth????
Oh? Hans has been here! The book 25 Years het Nationale Ballet ! Let's see... 1970-71...
Antwerp june 1970. I had no other choise. Amsterdam, with my sister nearby to keep an eye on me was okay. Paris, Berlin, Las Vegas, what ever else was out of the question. Well.... Amsterdam was like paradise! So why not! Het Nationale Ballet wasn't an old fashion ballet company. Even Rudolf Nureev signed in again. I was readdy for it!

Free to (wish me) killed on free internet?
Sorry fans, (have 200+ official Romanian fans and sometimes over 1200 vieuwers on my webcam.) I am just "blocked" for whatever. The FACTUAL news is that some romanians - read my site: http://neogen.ro/danielmclion (read my profile and/or scroll a.t.way down to have the Englisch version) want my death. That is NOT a joke!
Likely nor for real but for sure, that is not a joke.
No, I DON'T give up, not att all. I will deffend gay rights and much more! But it IS hard to fight the same fight again as in 1994 on the CompuServe NL or Politics forums. And tell ya what: I am 15 years older, sick and sometimes a Don Quichote fighting the REAL - mostly uncounsious- fascists. It's not just only a "deja-vu" but again an attempt to demonise a sincere person.... again!
In MY NOT Humble Opinion: Those people should be banned from the internet! STOP those fake/anonymous people who flame/curse/..... others. NO! I don't wanna stop free speach/opinion! But someone who writes me: You should / will be ... killed .... SHOULD be PROSCECUTED!!!!!

Queen Beatrix's day: Singing and dancing in the rain.
Koninginnedag, Queen's day. I used H.M.'s name in the title to make clear that it's not a gay pride or queer's day. It used to be the celebration of the queen's birthday (the late queen Juliana) but since queen Beatrix birthday is in January, she decided to keep it on April 30.
The whole country turns into an orange and red-white-blue carnaval. (The royal dynasty of Orange and the Dutch flag.) Everywhere garage sales and street markets ar held and it's the day all breweries have empty warehouses. The country is one big party! Some eldery people still have an Orange Bitter to toast with but beer is flowing continuously. Every cafe has a mobile draft outdoor. The music cacaphony enhances the mood! But the whole royal familly goes to visit a village and a neerby town. Wanna see wooden shoes? This is the day! There are still a few villages where - less and less by the year - some older people do wear traditional clotes every day, but it's the day that all still existing costumes were taken down from the attic. And of course, what do you do in those clothes? So all traditional, folkloristic - often very local - things are brushed up too!
Last year, near the end of the royal visit to Apeldoorn, a young man drove his car full speed throug the waiving and chearing people, killing 7 and himself crashing into a monument just meters away of the royal cauch. It was live on tv and within an hour or two, all celebrations and parties were cancelled. Was this the end of Queen's day? No, of course not. But it was clear that security would be raised to a real high level. Road blocks, car free streets, body guards, c.c. camera surveillance, uniformed police every 20 m. ... a very un-dutch situation. Nevertheless, all costumes and wooden shoes and antiques were bright and shining as every year. All the children choires, brass and other bands ready for the arrival of the royal familly... when for the first time in years, the rain was pooring down. But! With or without umbrellas, none would spoil the party, not even the weather gods! We had already some tunderstorms during the night and thus, we had "Singing and dancin' in the rain!" for the first half of the day... and the beer is flowing as usual again. The real Dutch spirit! ;) So let me finish this, find some orange things and on to the eldery home to have my yearly glass of Orange Bitter! :) I will reply to this later today with links to the newsflahes If you like to see wooden shoes, Belgian Breed horse riding (without sadle) and some Zeeland's traditional costumes or just the parties.
